How your suspension works

Suspension is made up of multiple components and is responsible for keeping your vehicle on the road. Shock absorbers play a big role in your vehicle’s road handling by ensuring your tires keep in contact with the ground as you’re moving. The coil spring is another component that keeps your vehicle stable. It supports the weight of your vehicle, absorbs road shock, and helps stabilize your steering.

How your steering works

Hydraulic steering consists of many components including the power steering pump and fluid, steering rack, steering wheel speed sensor, steering wheel and steering column seal. The system operates through the movements made by the steering wheel by moving hydraulic pressure to either side of the steering rack, turning the wheels in the direction you want. Vehicles with hydraulic power steering rely on this system to provide easier, more responsive steering.

Electric power steering consists of the same parts as the hydraulic steering: the steering rack, steering wheel and steering wheel sensor, but instead of the power steering pump, it has an electric motor. The system operates with mechanical inputs such as the direction of rotation, and speed the vehicle is going to provide the correct amount of assistance to the driver.

Commonly asked questions

Why does my vehicle continue bouncing after I drive over a bump?

Your shock absorbers (front or rear) could be worn and need replacement.

Why are my tires wearing unevenly?

There are several conditions that could cause this, such as loose tire rods, alignment being out of specification, or other worn suspension components.
